Here’s something I’ve been thinking about.
Common sense used to come from:
• mentors
• elders
• thoughtful conversations
• Simple and most effective methods
Today most people are surrounded by:
• noise
• opinions
• hot takes
• social media certainty
• people yelling opinions
So common sense has quietly become rare.
Maybe when we see it, we should rename it: Exceptional Sense.
And Ironically, AI might actually bring it back. Not because AI is smarter than us.
But because AI can help us:
• slow down
• challenge assumptions
• explore possibilities
• ask better questions
That’s how I used it with my $28,000 camper problem.
Not to write something. To think something through. And sometimes that’s the best use of AI there is.
Most people use AI like this:
Write this email.
Summarize this article.
Create this image.
That’s fine. But the most powerful way to use AI is different. Use it like a thinking partner.
Try prompts like:
• Help me think through this decision.
• Give me arguments for and against.
• What questions am I not asking?
• Challenge my assumptions.
You’ll be surprised how often clarity appears when you do that.
Sometimes the real value of AI isn’t speed.
It’s perspective.
